MEMORIAL PAGE

The following information and images were supplied by John Arnold from Mount Colah, NSW Australia, whose Father was a 49 Sqn Wireless Operator flying operations on

Manchesters from Scampton then lancasters from Scampton and Fiskerton. He Was: Flight Lieutenant Victor Medway Arnold RAAF.

Following training in Canada in 1941 and wireless training at Cranwell, Lincolnshire in 1942. His first operation was on 30/5/42 the target was Cologn.

He completed his tour of 30 operations on 26/4/1943. Targets included Duisburg, Stettin, Pilsen, Stuttgart, Spezia, Essen, Turin, Genoa, Hamburg,

Kiel, Wismer, Ossnabruck, Munich, Wilhelmshaven, Bremen, karlsruhe, Kassel and Nikel.

During his time in England with Bomber Command, Victor married John's Mother who returned with him to Australia. John's Mother is still alive but Victor

unfortunately died in the early 'seventies while in England following a re-visit of  his former airbases. My grateful thanks to John for supplying and sharing this information.

Note:

John has also expressed a wish to see a page dedicated to the Commonwealth contribution to the Bombing offensive. It goes without saying that I will be happy

to do this and it will follow after I have done some research.

John has also asked if I could include his e-mail address on this page and should anyone wish to contact him about his late Father's wartime service.
